Ceramics in Valencia

In 2019 I visited Valencia’s Museum of Ceramics and a ceramics museum and showroom in Manises, the town nearby that historically has created many ceramics. Here are images from the museum in Valencia.

A gorgeous bird-themed tile and plate by TJ (?) from 2001.

Black and white illustrations combined with decorated vessels evoked a sense of whimsical mechanisms.

This Japanese vase depicting possibly a war conference was ensconced in a wildly decorated and pillared alcove. I included closeups of the patterned borders and panels.

Some playful works by Picasso, made in the 1950s.

Here are some properly old pieces; some from the middle ages and some as old as Roman times. Many from the medieval period of Moorish influence.

Basic forms of hispano-muslim ceramics, and of 15th century Valencian ceramics.

It took me several hours of searching, but this bust is a reproduction in ceramics of the Dama de Elche, an Iberian sculpture from the 4th century BC.

A medieval Madonna with child – I took closeup shots of the folds in her dress – and a modern 20th century Madonna that I found at the next museum.
